Professional Application Method for a Perfect Bond
Achieve a permanent, unbreakable bond by following these professional steps.
Prepare Your Workspace: Work in a well-ventilated area.
Surface Preparation is Key: For the strongest adhesion, both surfaces must be clean, dry, and free of oils. Roughen up smooth surfaces (especially finished leather or metal) with sandpaper (80-120 grit is ideal) to give the cement more to grip onto. Wipe away any dust after sanding.
Apply a Thin, Even Coat: Using a brush or spreader, apply a thin, consistent layer of Barge Cement to both surfaces you intend to join. For highly porous materials like cork or felt, a second coat may be needed after the first has dried.
Allow to Cure (Crucial Step): Let both surfaces air dry for 15-20 minutes. The cement should feel tacky but not wet. Do not join the pieces while the cement is wet.
Bond with Pressure: Carefully align the pieces and press them together firmly. For a truly permanent bond, apply significant pressure by hammering (use a scrap piece of leather to protect your project's surface) or clamping the joined pieces. The bond is instant and permanent.
