Tacoma — the City of Destiny — sits at the bottom of Commencement Bay like it earned the view — the waterfront curving south from the Port terminals while the Narrows Bridge stitches the city to the Kitsap Peninsula just a few miles west. The Puyallup River drains out of the Cascades and finds the bay at the city's southeastern edge, broad and unhurried.
